This year’s competition culminates in an exciting live final at the Meat Industry Expo, where the top finalists will showcase their skills in front of industry leaders, peers, and attendees from across Ontario. The action will also be livestreamed across MPO’s social media channels, giving finalists the opportunity to demonstrate their talent to an even wider audience. 

The top finalists will advance to the live championship round at the Meat Industry Expo, where they’ll compete for the title of Ontario’s Finest Butcher 2026 in front of an industry audience.

Why Compete?

Competing in Ontario’s Finest Butcher Competition is an opportunity to demonstrate your craftsmanship, test your skills against some of Ontario’s best butchers, and help showcase the professionalism of the meat industry. 

Competitors will have the opportunity to: 

Benchmark their skills against top butchers from across Ontario 
Demonstrate precision, creativity, product knowledge, and merchandising expertise 
Gain recognition from respected industry judges and peers 
Represent their company and take pride in their trade
Network with fellow meat professionals and industry leaders 
Earn the title of Ontario's Finest Butcher 2026 and the recognition that comes with being one of the province's top butchery professionals

Elimination Round

The elimination round focuses on technical precision, workmanship, and core butchery competencies. Participants will complete a timed 30-minute breakdown challenge using designated meat cuts and producing required retail-ready products.

Competitors will be evaluated on seaming, frenching, tying, slicing, saw skills, and boning or trimming. Judging in the elimination round is based on the competitor’s individual skillsand not against others.

New For 2026 - Final Round

The top three competitors from the elimination round will advance to the live championship final at the Meat Industry Expo. This round focuses on creativity, technical execution, merchandising strategy, consumer appeal, and product storytelling. New rules and guidelines for 2026: The competitors will:

  • Receive advance disclosure of assigned cuts
  • Develop their own themed display concept
  • Work within a designated pantry budget
  • Use approved spices and marinades supplied by Malabar Ingredients
  • Present and explain their merchandising and creative decisions to judges and attendees

Dylan Miedema Crowned 2025 Ontario’s Finest Butcher In The 12th Annual Competition

GUELPH, ON – October 27, 2025 – Ontario’s Finest Butcher Competition hosted by Meat & Poultry Ontario, now in its 12th year, is a celebration of the craft of butchery and the outstanding skills of Ontario’s artisans. This year’s competition featured top butchers from across Ontario who displayed their exceptional talents and creativity with the final competition taking place at the Meating Place Conference 2025 at Blue Mountain with the winner being announced at the Meat & Poultry Awards Gala.
